Danaher Corporation announced today the election of John T. Schwieters, Vice Chairman of Perseus, LLC, to its Board of Directors. Mr. Schwieters will chair Danaher's Audit Committee.

Mr. Schwieters, 63, has been Vice Chairman of Perseus, a merchant bank and private equity fund management company, since April 2000. Prior to Perseus, he was the Managing Partner of Arthur Andersen's Mid-Atlantic region from 1989 through 1999 and was a member of Arthur Andersen's U.S. Leadership team. Mr. Schwieters is a member of the Board of Directors of Manor Care, Inc. and Smithfield Foods, Inc. In addition, he has held key positions in various professional and civic organizations, including President of the Greater Washington Society of CPAs, Chairman of the Greater Washington Board of Trade, and President of the Washington Ballet. Mr. Schwieters holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Georgetown University, and an L.L.B. from George Washington University.

Mr. Schwieters will fill a seat created by an increase in Danaher Board membership, from eight to nine Directors.
